Could Lewis really come out of retirement for Vitali?

Published by R at 1:31 pm under Fighters Edit This

In what appears to be an astonishing interview, Vitali Klitschko has declared he may get his wish of a rematch with Lennox Lewis.

Despite Lewis retiring in 2003, after his clash with Klitschko, the older of the Ukrainian powerhouses has stated “there were negotiations with Valuev, and Lewis, and Chagaev”.

Klitchsko will be fighting WBC mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Gomez sometime in the spring, after pulling out of a proposed bout with Britain’s David Haye, but feels a rematch with Lewis may come later on in the year. Vitali continued.

“As for Lewis, you know, as usually happens, there is bargaining. One side, in this case Lewis, asks for the maximum amount. We referred to the minimum.

Ideally, we’d find a compromise somewhere in the middle. It’s already well known that
Lennox began bargaining and was considering returning to the ring”.

Klitschko is still unhappy about the manner of his defeat to Lewis and that he was never given the opportunity of a rematch, as the first fight was stopped after he sustained a horrific cut, with the Ukrainian being ahead on points.

Klitschko also stated that his younger brother may fight David Haye in the summer, after Vitali’s decision not to pursue the former Cruiserweight world champion.

I’ll keep you posted.
